The selection procedure consists of 2 stages- GD and PI.
A predefined group of 8 – 10 students are made to sit for a Group Discussion that lasts for about 15 minutes. The second round is the Personal Interview.
Group Discussion:
In the GD, the most of the topics given were abstract and general. Two minutes were provided to students to think on the topic and then they were asked to start the discussion. The sitting pattern was either semi-circular or U-shaped.
The number of moderators in most of the cases was 3. They did not play an active role once the GD started. When one minute was left, the moderators rang a bell to inform the students of the same. In certain cases the moderators noted down what was said in the GD and the candidate was quizzed on the same in the PI.
Since there is little time in which one has to participate, there are chances of an unruly situation arising. The students are advised that despite the paucity of time, they should try and ensure that no untoward/intractable situations arise in the course of the GD. The students should also be advised to avoid getting involved in a one-to-one debate/discussion.
Sample GD Topics:
- Celebration of Valentine day should be banned in India
- Business and Ethics don't go together.
- Foreign competition is good for Indian industries.
- Privatization is the panacea for Indian PSUs
- Terrorism – The global evil
- Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely

- Are computers generating unemployment?
- The more we change, the more we are the same
Interview Feedback:
In some cases the same members who are the moderators in the GD become the panelists for the PI. The panelists keenly observed the candidates during the GD and asked related questions e.g. on entries made, stand taken etc. Candidates in a few cases were asked to justify their responses.
The panel generally contained 2-3 panelists and the PI lasted for 15 minutes. Furthermore, students reported that as much as 60 to 70 percent of the entire time of the interview was devoted to checking the academic and technical soundness of the candidate. In case of candidates with less than one year of work experience, the time devoted was slightly less. But there was an undeniable stress on academics.
At times, questions on budget, stock markets etc. were also asked to the students. Sometimes, the panel tried to corner the student very gently or perhaps take a stress interview.
Candidates with work experience were asked a lot of questions on their job profile, responsibilities undertaken, the company itself, promotions earned etc.
